If you would like to extend your stay in Canada, you must apply for status extension before your visa expires. The expiration date of the visa will be on your study visa, work visa, or stamp on your passport when you entered Canada. In the case of a stamp in the passport, the maturity is 6 months after the date of entry into the country or the date written by the immigration officer.
The application must be submitted 30 days before your visitor, student or worker status expires.
If you apply for the visa extension and your visa expires before the immigration response comes, you maintain your status until your process is finalized. This waiting period without a visa is known as “implied status.”
If an application for extension of work or study visa is made, one can also continue to work or study while awaiting the immigration decision. It is necessary to comply with the conditions of the original authorization. For example, if the work permit is to work for a specific employer it is necessary to continue working for the same company.
IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) does not provide “implied status” confirmation.
However, proof that the visa extension has been requested, such as confirmation of receipt of the CIC application or proof of payment of the visa fee, is sufficient.
